Day Twelve - Twelve Days of BAO Holiday GiveAway

For our Day Twelve of our BAO GiveAway extravaganza, we want you to help us come up with possible challenge themes for next year. We would love some really interesting and different ideas, rather than "Hearts" for a February challenge or "Red White and Blue" for a July challenge, so let your imagination take over! Think on it a little and then leave us a comment with your challenge suggestion (suggestionS would be even better ;o) on this post between now and midnight Eastern Daylight Time on Friday, December 12, including

1. your challenge theme suggestion(s) and

2. a way for us to contact you (your etsy shop name or your email address) if you win.

On Saturday, December 13, we will use a random number generator to select the winner of this (68-inch-long!!!) bead crocheted necklace by SalamanderHouse. What a great prize to end this 12 day adventure on.

A few rules do apply:

  1. One comment with the requested information per person.
  2. Leave a way for us to contact you.
  3. Previous winners are eligible.
  4. By leaving a comment, you are giving us the right to use your name/shop link/ blog link in the "announcing the winner" post in this blog.

Good luck! Check back here later today for our announcement of the Day Six Winner.

Well . . . I'm not sure what kind of challenges we'll be having . . . but a couple themes I've been contemplating are "For the Boys" or "It's a Man's World"-- items for guys of course . . .
And "Crop Circles"-- just because:)

Maybe like hide little eggs around and have a search for eggs contest for Easter. Or do a Trivia Contest for the holiday. Something like that??? But of course DON'T have the answers posted until the end of the contest.

Stages of life

Jewelry reflecting various jobs (Can you imagine a seed bead embroidered pin to look like a keyboard?! They make those beads with letters on them... Wouldn't a programmer/computer guru love that?!)

Jewelry that reflects your name meaning... (Nora is a light... so I would make something like a little lantern pendant...)

Jewelry that incorporates all of the elements in one piece rather than jewelry reflecting a single element... such as an enhydro crystal for water, glass for fire, wood for earth... I'm sure I could think of something for air... maybe a really cool whistle pendant... I don't know. :)

I really need to consider joining this group instead of just stalking it. I DO make a LOT of jewelry after all! :)

Challenge themes...

Well, down here it gets pretty hot in the summer, so have one for jewelry inspired by people's favorite ice cream flavor...There are some great flavors to work with...

Similarly, in the winter, come up with something that inspired by "Warm and Toasty."

Sea Creatures

I saw the idea about job-inspired jewelry...For us "cubicle warriors," jewelry inspired by Office Supplies :o)

How about jewelry inspired by a specific decade? The 80s? (could be kinda scary, but could be fun too...)...

That's what I came up with off the top of my head...Love the necklace!

I would love to see a Monochrome challenge - these talented artists could come up with some stunning pieces I am sure.

or
"Take Flight" - a bird/butterfly/bat etc theme

or
"United" - it's a new year and a new presidency! Show off creations that encourage and celebrate unity.

Trying to think globally here, I'm not sure if all your members are on this continent, but am assuming/hoping your buyers are around the world.

I like a seasons theme, but since it varies depending on where one is in relation to the equator, it could get confusing.

Other thoughts that came to me...

Love
Favorite birds/flowers
Freedom
Natural disasters
Hope
Fears
Harmony
Candy
Oceans/Seas
Peace
Day and/or night skies

Can they be conveyed in color and design? I'm not sure, but beads can be pretty powerful and you have some great artists in your group.

Jewelry for specific careers...
a palette for artists
knitting needles for knitters
a saddle for horse riders
a stethoscope for doctors etc.
Pendants that actually look a little similar to a particular person..for instance someone can send a picture of themselves and you can make a pendant with beads or in polymer clay.

I find creative thoughts tend to beget creative throughts, so here are a few ideas:

--Design a piece of jewelry that embodies the essence of your favorite word.

--Make a piece of jewelry for or inspired by your favorite fictional character.

--Seven Deadly Sins. Make something inspired by your favorite vice.

--Seven Heavenly Virtues. Make something inspired by the virtue you most wish to exhibit.

--Optical illusions. Make something your eyes can't trust.

--Negative Space. Make the focal point something that -isn't- there.

--Phase change. Can mean melting, freezing, evaporating, or merely changing all the rules.

--Dialectics. From the clash of two opposing forces resolves a synthesis.

Have fun!

How about "contrasts" or "textures" or something inspired by a quote, poem or piece of music?
